Portimao Test: Acosta fastest Moto2

Official Testing for the Moto2 and Moto3 classes continued in Portimao through Saturday, with a wet track greeting riders this morning after overnight rain.

Proceedings eventually got underway, and it is Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo) who goes into the final day’s runs as the rider to beat.

The Spaniard recorded a 1:42.234 to leave him atop the timesheets, displacing Friday’s fastest rider Aron Canet (Pons Wegow Los40) who finished 0.217s behind the 2021 Moto3™ World Champion. Sam Lowes continued his good showing in the south of Portugal and managed to crack the top three times of the Test so far, but he is still over half a second off of Acosta’s impressive effort.

Not everyone could master the mixed conditions through the day, with a number of crashes occurring, with Albert Arenas (Red Bull KTM Ajo), Alonso Lopez (CAG Speed Up) and Celestino Vietti (Fantic Racing) among the highest profile names to hit the deck in the intermediate class.

Testing continues today (Sunday), while you can also keep up to date with each session through Live Timing on www.motogp.com.
